Swim Team Raises $1,200 in Support of Chester County Non-Profit Organization Horse Therapy for Cancer Patients

Swim Team Hosts Swim For a Cause Fundraiser to Support Horsemanship Program

DOUGLASSVILLE, PA – June 28, 2008 – The AC Swim Team in Douglassville hosted a “Swim For a Cause” Fundraiser Event to benefit Horse Power For Life, a recently launched non-profit organization. This money raised will allow Horse Power for Life to continue its valued work of providing free horsemanship activities to cancer patients, survivors and their families that focus on the mind, heart and body, rather than the disease.

“I would like to personally thank everyone who participated in the event and all those who sponsored the swimmers. The children swam their little hearts out” said Shiree Sansone, president and co-founder of Horse Power For Life. “The money raised will allow Horse Power for Life to impact so many more individuals touched by cancer so they too may experience the joy and life changing therapeutic benefits that horseback riding provides.”

Shannon Dykie, Swim Coach for the AC Swim Team, organized the event. “We have families and members of the swim team who have struggled with cancer, so we really wanted to do something to give back.” The Swim For a Cause event was held at the Amity Township Athletic Club in Douglassville and ran from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Each swimmer who participated was committed to swimming a set amount of laps and received sponsorship donations from friends and family members. After completing the laps, each participant received a free Horse Power for Life pink horse shoe car magnet as a thank you. The event included complementary music, food, beverages and pony rides given by Starlyte Farms.

The AC Swim Team raised and donated $1,200 to Horse Power for Life. One hundred percent of the money will go toward caring/boarding of the horses and instructing the students. “Shannon did a terrific job, we were so impressed” said Shiree Sansone. “Shannon said that she would like to do this event every year and we would be honored to be part of it and are looking forward to next year’s event.”
