ABOUT

The core of the program includes 90 minute sessions and guides students through all aspects of horse care from basic grooming to leading horses to riding. Our program is customized for each individual based on their age, skills, experience, comfort level, health and physical ability. Students are encouraged to become Ambassadors to the program at the completion of the course, offering their newly acquired knowledge to families entering the program. Lessons are taught by our Riding Instructor Becca Smith, and are FREE so that students will not be prevented from joining our program due to financial considerations.

ALL SESSIONS ARE HELD AT:

Stone Crop Farm

1646 Fairview Road,

Glenmoore, PA 19343

Program is FREE for the family

Lessons are normally 1 ½ hour sessions

After completion, students have the opportunity to volunteer and remain part of the program

Upon completion of program, all participants will be competent in the following areas:

  • Halter and tack up horse/pony

  • Use grooming equipment correctly

  • Leading a horse/pony from left and right sides

  • Understanding horses and how they communicate their thoughts and emotions

  • Steer horse at walk and posting trot

Horses have long been regarded as natural healers.  It has been clinically documented that just being around horses changes human brainwave patters. We calm down and become more centered and focused. A substantial number of studies have explored the positive therapeutic effects of horses on people who live with a wide range of illnesses, including cancer. Research has shown that for people with cancer, working with horses can decrease anxiety, stress and depresion, while improving levels of pain, fatigue and cancer survival rate. Working with horses allows students to gain insight as it relates to emotions, communication, personal healing and inner strength and helps the body to focus more energy on physical recovery.
